Saskatchewan Agriculture Awareness Month- Farmland Cookies
Part #5 Farmland Cookies
No meal is complete with a little sweetness to finish it off! This cookie recipe incorporates both Flax and Oats, so you know it is not only delicious and sweet but it is also nutritious and filling. This Farmland Cookie recipe comes directly from the Saskatchewan Flax Development Commission cookbook.
Flax
Flax is hard to miss in July with the small beautiful purple flowers filling the fields. Flax is used in food production, personal care products, animal feeds, fibre and also has industrial uses. Flax has been seen as a health-promoting ingredient and premium flax is rapidly being marketed and expanding into the functional food market.
Oats
Oats are often grown for feed. Primarily feed for horses, hogs and cattle. Rolled oats and oatmeal are used in the edible market for baking and cooking. Yorkton SK. is home to one of the largest Oat processing facilities in North America - Grain Millers. Check for packaging info on your bag of Oats, could be grown and processed right here in Sask!
